Genetic stewardship
Protecting genetic diversity relies on responsible selection and appropriately chosen tests. It does not imply universal testing or central sample storage at KAS.

World Dog Federation (WDF) is an independent private canine organisation, not FCI or a state authority. Recognition of pedigrees, titles and qualifications depends on the relevant programme and the receiving organisation’s rules.

Official WDF member · Slovakia
K.A.S. is among the founding members of the WDF project, as personally confirmed by World Dog Federation president Ciro Boiano, according to the KAS owner’s direct account. The association takes particular pride in participating from the origins of this international initiative dedicated to canine health, responsible breeding and genealogical traceability.
The WDF article dated 26 June 2021 documents KAS joining the WDF system after many years of cooperation with the Italian ICBD club and support for its health project. The WDF member list identifies KAS as an Official Member in Slovakia: documented official membership and a historical partnership.
The WDF Global Project for Canine Genetic Health, Traceability and Responsible Breeding connects breed-specific screening, genealogy, genetic diversity, temperament and statistics. KAS supports these aims within the scope of the applicable association programmes.
K.A.S. enters relevant results and breeding suitability decisions in its association registers. Where required, it includes the results in genealogical certificates, pedigree parchments, attestations and official communications within the K.A.S./WDF system. These are the relevant findings, not reproductions of complete clinical reports. Original reports are kept by the respective breeders and professionals, veterinarians or laboratories. K.A.S. reviews their content for breeding selection without operating a central document repository. It does not systematically retain complete copies of reports and is not a DNA bank or sample archive. Access and disclosure respect confidentiality and the safeguards applicable to breeders’ data. Molecular DNA tests are distinct from clinical veterinary examinations and complement them where appropriate or required by applicable protocols: specific hereditary risks, identity, parentage and programmes for champions or high-profile breeding dogs. They are not universally required for every puppy. Results concern the variants or markers analysed and are interpreted in the context of the individual dog and programme. Examinations, assessments and certificates document the findings reviewed and support responsible selection; no certificate guarantees freedom from every disease or a dog’s future health.
Being part of this international cooperation is an honour and a commitment for KAS: supporting canine health and a culture of responsible breeding.
Breed recognition and the standards used differ between organisations. Check current WDF documents for its breed list and the sources of individual standards.
Translation, updating and publication of the standards are handled directly by the WDF. These standards are the reference for judges at shows in member countries and for breeders pursuing excellence.
Shows, trials and sporting activities depend on the organiser. Check the current calendar, rules and entry conditions for each event.
The relevant organisation sets procedures for confirming results and awarding titles. Entry or an award at one event does not by itself establish eligibility for an international title.
Check kennel-name registration conditions, territorial scope and any name protection directly with the relevant registry.
Cooperation with WDF does not confer state authority or universal international recognition. WDF and FCI are separate organisations with their own rules.

Five fundamental principles guiding every action of the World Dog Federation worldwide.
Protecting genetic diversity relies on responsible selection and appropriately chosen tests. It does not imply universal testing or central sample storage at KAS.
Recognition of pedigrees, judges and titles follows the rules of the participating organisations. Network membership does not guarantee acceptance everywhere.
Health examinations and participation rules follow the specific programme or event. Uniform screening of all breeding dogs should not be assumed.
Codes of ethics, professional training of breeders and judges, and transparent enforcement of welfare standards across the federation.
Experimental records distinguish a breeding programme from a universally recognised breed. Maltipoo F1 is an experimental cross of a Maltese mother and Poodle father; resulting traits are neither uniform nor guaranteed.
Technical areas and current mandates should be checked in valid WDF documents.
A KAS pedigree is an association genealogical document issued within the applicable programme. World Dog Federation membership is a separate canine affiliation, reported in the WDF member list; it is not state accreditation or FCI membership. Acceptance of documents and titles depends on the receiving organisation’s rules. Experimental Maltipoo registration does not imply FCI or state breed recognition.
Technical topics include inherited risks and genetic diversity. Specific commission powers and testing requirements must be established by current documents.
Defines regulations for Utility, Mondioring, agility, obedience, racing and all sport disciplines.
Standardises hunting, tracking and research trials, championing working breeds.
Oversees compliance with the ethical code and applies sanctions when violations occur.

Check educational activities and any qualifications with the provider. An institution’s name alone does not establish university status or accreditation.
Check the relevant organisation’s current rules for available titles, qualification requirements and recognition.
This section introduces responsible-breeding topics and professional cooperation. The existence, remit and binding decisions of a specific commission must be supported by current documents from the relevant organisation.
Check the commission’s current membership, appointment process and powers directly with the relevant organisation. Do not assume a fixed number of delegates or term of office without current statutes or a documented decision.
The KAS × WDF Breeding Commission is dedicated to promoting sustainable, fit-for-function, responsible and ethical dog breeding practices worldwide. Our mission is to enhance the welfare, health and genetic diversity of pedigree dogs while promoting adherence to professional standards. We actively provide expert recommendations and guidelines to national canine organisations, making the highest breeding standards accessible to breed clubs and individual breeders.
Breeder education programmes: comprehensive material on health, genetics, nutrition, animal behaviour and responsible breeding practices.
Support and organisation of professional events to present the latest expertise in pedigree dog breeding.
Genetic diversity workshops: emphasise the importance of maintaining diversity within breeds and educate breeders on the risks of inbreeding.
K.A.S. requires reports of clinical veterinary breeding suitability examinations specified for each breed and its known hereditary risks. Veterinarians or qualified facilities perform the examinations; the association verifies the documentation and assesses results under the relevant protocol.
Dogs live with affiliated breeding families responsible for daily care, veterinary arrangements and keeping their original documents. KAS performs association-level checks and reviews outcomes. Association suitability does not replace public authorisations or breeders’ statutory duties. KAS is not a puppy retailer.
Mentorship programmes where experienced breeders guide newcomers, fostering a culture of knowledge-sharing.
Data collection on breeding for the correct evaluation of weak and strong points, as a source for professional guidelines.
Advocate for maintaining genetic diversity within breeds. Preserve the breeding of pedigree dogs in accordance with the customs, traditions and breed standards established by NCOs and breed-specific clubs. Contribute to the preservation of breeds with very low genetic diversity through systematic and scientifically based crossbreeding.
Establish codes of ethics for breeders based on transparency, honesty, welfare and health of dogs. Monitor compliance with ethical standards. Promote responsible breeding through the application of current legislation and protection methods aligned with the latest scientific, technical and legal innovations.
Cooperation among breeders, clubs, veterinarians and geneticists can support canine health and welfare. Specific partnerships and responsibilities need evidence; global harmonisation of rules should not be assumed.
