Current clarification ·
This clarification updates the current information on this website. Earlier public wording about compulsory DNA for every puppy, a complete archive or guaranteed health was too broad; this clarification does not deny earlier individual commitments. Their scope must be assessed against the relevant documentation.
Purpose and legal status
KAS supervises breeding selection, assesses reproductive suitability and, where a programme provides for it, maintains genealogical entries and issues association certificates. Registration within the Slovak legal system administered by the Ministry of the Interior is not special canine accreditation, a monopoly or state authorisation to issue pedigrees. Legal registration dates to 2017; earlier references to 2016 must not be treated as legal incorporation without supporting records.
Clinical screening is not DNA testing
Veterinary examinations assess clinical condition. Depending on the dog and programme, they may address joints, heart, eyes, hearing, breathing or reproductive health. Selection and interpretation of examinations belong to the veterinarian; they are not automatically molecular genetics. KAS reviews submitted results and their relevance to internal breeding approval.
Selective molecular genetics and parentage
DNA tests examine specific variants or assess parentage using the relevant method. They are selectively required for champion pathways, high-profile breeding animals and certain international competition programmes when their regulations require them. They are not automatically compulsory for every mating or puppy. A parentage result is not evidence of freedom from all disease.
Recording outcomes, not keeping every original report
KAS records assessment outcomes and internal reproductive suitability approvals in association registers. Original clinical and laboratory reports generally remain with breeding families, veterinarians or laboratories. KAS is not a central archive of all reports, a DNA bank or a general custodian of samples. A genealogical entry is not a complete genetic history.
Distributed family breeding and responsibility
Dogs live with affiliated breeding families responsible for daily care, veterinary arrangements and keeping their original documents. KAS performs association-level checks and reviews outcomes. Association suitability does not replace public authorisations or breeders’ statutory duties. KAS is not a puppy retailer.
Privacy and proportionate disclosure
Personal data of breeders and other people are protected within GDPR and applicable law. Not every animal health report is, in itself, personal data. Where it is linked to an identifiable person, disclosure may require restriction or anonymisation. Transparency does not mean public access to every original report of every member.
KAS/WDF pedigrees and the distinction from FCI
A KAS pedigree is an association genealogical document issued within the applicable programme. World Dog Federation membership is a separate canine affiliation, reported in the WDF member list; it is not state accreditation or FCI membership. Acceptance of documents and titles depends on the receiving organisation’s rules. Experimental Maltipoo registration does not imply FCI or state breed recognition.
Limits of checks and registered versus operational premises
Examinations and responsible selection can help assess and reduce some risks; they cannot eliminate every inherited disease or guarantee future health. A registered office identifies the association, not all breeding locations. Individual families’ operational premises are not automatically KAS headquarters; confirm the location and authorised contact before visiting.
Proportionate written documentation requests
State the purpose, identify the dog and specify the record or result requested. Requests involving third parties may require proportionate identity and relationship evidence: microchip, passport, contract, national registration where applicable, or supporting correspondence. Do not send unnecessary personal data. KAS considers the scope, its available records and the lawful basis for disclosure; for originals it may identify the responsible holder. No invented response deadline or automatic entitlement to third-party documents is promised.
- Describe your purpose, identify the dog and define the request.
- Provide only proportionate evidence; additional identification is requested where needed.
- KAS checks its own records, entitlement, restrictions and any need for clarification.
- The response distinguishes a recorded outcome, an available document and an original held elsewhere.
